Gasfitting is restricted work in New Zealand and must be carried out by an appropriately licensed or authorised gasfitter. Required certification is also completed as part of applicable gasfitting work.

Turn off the gas supply if this can be done safely
Ventilate the property
Move outside if the smell persists
In an emergency, call 111
Don’t attempt to repair a suspected gas fault yourself. Gas appliances and installations should be checked by a licensed gas worker.
